Rei Bartlett - Abstract Artist
As I heal through my art journey, I endeavour to combine my passion for advocacy work and my passion for art to help raise awareness on topics that are close to me, such as mental health, climate change and gender equality.
As an abstract artist, I love to work on all kinds of mediums from canvas, mix media paper to wood. I enjoy mixing paints, like acrylic and watercolour, with oil pastels, soft pastels and colour pencils to see how they flow, blend and fuse together, and in so doing, create different textures.
I love looking for the beauty in all things and much of my inspiration comes from the world around me. Living in a tropical country like Singapore, it isn't hard to spot stunning nature that captures my eye and captivates my heart.
But more often than not, my inspiration stems from my emotions, feelings, memories and vivid imagination.

After being diagnosed with depression and anxiety back in 2015, I felt lost, isolated and alone. I didn't trust my feelings, I didn't trust my thoughts, I didn't trust myself. I saw no way out of the situation. However, through the years, I was fortunate enough, with the help of family and friends, to find an outlet and begin to thrive again through my art and for that, I am forever grateful.

I've been creating art for as long as I can remember, but it was only recently that I decided to take that bold step and share my work with the rest of the world. I've only just started, but I'm loving the feeling of freedom that comes with it.
